On Sunday (18th) the Sutton Rambling Club continue their summer programme with a fairly easy and pleasant 10 mile ramble focusing on the ever popular Chatsworth estate.
The route will cover extensive areas of the Chatsworth parkland enjoying early viewing of autumnal colours and then progress to the picturesque villages of Beeley, Calton Lees, Rowland and Calver.
The walk will start at the Robin Hood Inn on the A619 Chesterfield to Baslow road(grid ref 279722) The route will head south into the lovely Chatsworth Park where we will have a mid morning coffee break. Then continuing south until we reach the village of Beeley where choice of refreshments will be available for the lunch stop. We head back north revisiting the Chatsworth estate before cutting across to Calton Lees and Calton Pastures. Good viewpoints on this section. We then descend from the Pastures onto the Monsal Trail and take the opportunity to have a mid afternoon tea break on the Trail. The final section of the walk takes us by the tranquil village of Rowland and after another 2 miles finishing at the Eyre Arms in Calver in time for a 6.30pm coach departure home.
We continue to welcome new members as they can look forward to a day of healthy exercise,attractive scenery and friendly company. The McEewns coach leaves the "Staff Of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the new Asda supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. The coach fare is £9, accompanied juniors free. Although the walks are popular there is no need to prebook your seat on the coach.
