Sunday, August 7, 2011
Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club
On Sunday (7th August) the Sutton Rambling Club continue their popular summer ramble programme with a linear walk in the delightful limestone country surrounding Monyash in the White Peak. The ramble will be a distance of between 11 and 12 miles and start at Senner's Lane off Coal Pitt Lane (grid ref 112709).
Initially the route takes us south east by Chelmorton Low where extensive views of the Wye Valley can be enjoyed. We continue into the village of Chelmorton, the highest in Derbyshire at 1209 feet above sea level. Continuing south down High Stool Lane, east to High Stool Farm and into Flagg village. We then head for the Limestone Way via Mycock Lane and move on to the picturesque village of Monyash which is an ideal location for a lunch stop with cafe and pub facilities.
Suitably refreshed the first part of the afternoon section takes south east along the Limestone Way to One Ash Grange Farm (here the monks of Roche Abbey used to administer their land holdings). The route then continues along Calling Low,and Back Lane and then north east over fields to Meadow Place Grange and over the River Lathkill into Over Haddon for an afternoon tea stop. This is great vantage point to view Lathkill Dale, a beautiful limestone valley overlooked by high crags and interesting rock formations.
The final leg of this diverse walk carries on north east past New Close Farm and into Bakewell via Burton Closes. The coach will depart from Bakewell at approximately 6.30 pm.
We continue to welcome new members who can enjoy a day of healthy exercise and attractive scenery The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff Of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the new Asda supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points en route. The fare is £9,accompanied juniors free.Although the walks are very popular there is no need to prebook your seat on the coach.
