On May 1 the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying a delightful 10 mile ramble from Totley to the Rivelin Valley. There will be a rich variety of scenery on offer with an intoxicating mixture of moorland, valleys, streams and reservoir landscapes.
The walk will commence at Totley (grid ref 305797) and head west on to Totley Moor following the "Totley Tunnel" track.
We then cross the A625 and have a lunch break at Longshaw Lodge where a choice of pub or cafe will be available. In the early part of the afternoon the route takes us north beside the tranquil waters of Burbage Brook. This will be an exhilarating section passing by Carl Wark, Higger Tor and Burbage Rocks. We then continue north west across open access land to the Stanedge Pole viewpoint and then cut across to pass by Redmires Reservoir.
Soon after the reservoirs we will have a late afternoon break at a pub at Lodge Moor and finish this lovely walk at Rails in the Rivelin Valley (grid ref 290873). The coach will depart from this point at 6.00pm.
We continue to welcome new members who will be guaranteed a day of healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company. The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff Of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pivk up points en route. The fare is £9, accompanied juniors free. Although the club walks are becoming increasingly popular there is no need to prebook your seat on the coach.
