South Yorkshire RambleThe Sutton Rambling Club continue their winter programme of walks next Sunday (20th) with an easy 10 mile route in North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire. The walk will offer a good mix with rivers, country parks, canals and attractive scenery. It could be a good day for you birdwatchers so bring your bins. There are no hills so apologies to budding Tensings!

The walk starts at the Langold Country Park Visitor Centre (grid ref 585865). After a stroll through the park we pick up a series of footpaths and tracks that take us past Buckwood Farm, Wallingwells, Cotten Mill Farm and via Cross Lane into Woodsetts for lunch at the Butchers Arms at approximately mid-day. The pub will be very welcoming and are quite happy for us to eat our sandwiches on their premises provided we purchase drinks from them.

Suitably refreshed the walk continues in the afternoon through the outskirts of Woodsetts and onto the Lindrick Common golf course (heads down-fore!) footpath and past Stubbing Lane, Monk Bridge and Brancliffe Grange. We then cross the railway to continue along the Cuckoo Way heading west. This section of the Cuckoo Way is the towpath running by the Chesterfield Canal.

There will be an afternoon break at Kiveton Park Station before continuing along the canal. After a short distance the canal ends and we follow footpaths through disused workings (now a community park) and then under the M1 and on to our final destination Rother Valley Country Park. The coach will leave from the Golf Range coach park at 5.00 pm.

We continue to welcome new members. This would be a very suitable walk for inexperienced walkers contemplating taking up this very enjoyable pastime. We can always offer healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company.

The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There is no need to prebook your seat on the coach. The fare is £9. accompanied juniors free. There are other pick up points en route.
