Millers DaleThe Sutton Rambling Club continue their popular winter programme with a very scenic 12 mile walk in some of the most attractive scenery in the Peak Distinct National Park. This is a great opportunity to enjoy that special peace and tranquillity within spectacular limestone dales.

The route starts from the old mining village of Taddington (grid ref 145711) situated 1100 feet above sea level making it one of the highest villages in England. We then head north across the A6 and through the hamlets of Priestcliffe and Priestcliffe Ditch and then cut across to Chee Dale via Blackwell. The next section is especially spectacular as we continue east along Chee Dale and view some of the best limestone scenery in the country, including the majestic Chee Tor towering 300 feet above us. We complete the morning soon after arriving in Millers Dale and take our lunch break with pub and cafe refreshments available.

In the afternoon we continue east along the higher level Platemakers Path above the Dale, pass Water-cum-Jolly and return to the Monsal. Trail just below Cressbrook. Mill. There is an easier option to continue along the lower level Monsal Trail. We then soon reach another highlight of the walk in the form of Monsal Head where dramatic views of Monsal Dale can be enjoyed whilst we have a short mid afternoon break. The route then heads south skimming the edge of Ashford-in.the Water and then turns north past Thornbridge Hall, along the old railway line to our destination, the attractive peaceful village of Great Longstone (grid ref 200715). Estimated time of departure home will be 5.00pm.

We always are pleased to welcome new members who can be assured of a day offering healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company.

The McEwens coach sets off from the "Staff Of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and picks up at the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points en route.
