The ramble will be a very leisurely 5.5 miles with plenty of time at the Black Swan in Crich where there will be ample Christmas cheer guaranteed! The starting point will be the village of Holloway (grid ref 325562). The route will head across to the Cromford Canal. The canal was completed in 1794 is 14 miles long and was used to link the cotton mills and other industries in the area with the Erewash Canal and other parts of the country. We follow the canal towpath south and then have a mid-morning coffee break at the Robin Hood cafe overlooking the canal. Soon after this refreshment we will leave the canal and and take field and woodland paths across to the village of Crich.

The "very extended" lunch break will be at the delightful Black Swan pub just above the market place. The highlights will be:

  • Group carols etc with keyboard accompaniment. Song sheets will be provided and everyone is encouraged to join in - a wide range of music will be covered
  • A generous buffet (cost £5) including sweets
  • Real Ales
  • Club raffle - could everyone bring a small raffle prize please. Proceeds donated to the Edale Mountain Rescue Service

After all this fun we will head back across field paths to Whatstandwell enjoying attractive views of the Derwent Valley. The ramble will finish at the Derwent Hotel (grid ref 332543) and the coach will depart for home at 4.00 pm.

New members will be made most welcome and will have a memorable day. DO REMEMBER TO BOOK IN ADVANCE PLEASE.
