Silkstone Common RambleOn Sunday (14th) the Sutton Rambling Club will be venturing beyond the Peak Distict into South Yorkshire. This will be a 9 mile circular ramble exploring interesting parkland and pastureland to the west of Barnsley.

The walk will start on Silkstone Common (grid ref SE 286057 ) and then descend into the village of Silkstone. We then head along an old wagonway past Barnby Hall and eventually reach our lunchtime destination Cannon Hall Country Park. Refreshments will be available with two large cafe"s within the park and there will be an opportunity to visit the gardens.

After this break the walk takes us through a conservation village called Cawthorne. We then continue past Banks Hall and return to Silkstone village. There is a very moving memorial in the churchyard dedicated to 26 children killed in the Huskar pit disaster in 1836. The last section of the walk takes a different route back to our starting point Silkstone Common. The coach will leave at 4.30pm.

We continue to welcome new members as they enjoy healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company. The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30 pm. There is no need to prebook your seat for this ramble. The fare is £9.
