This is a previous walk by the Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club in South Derbyshire. Please click for details of the next walk or a walking calendar.
On Sunday 6th April 2008 the members of the Sutton Rambling Club enjoyed a fascinating combination of canal, rail and road history within the context of a 12 mile ramble in the Butterley and Crich area of South Derbyshire.
The walk will start near Brinsley (grid ref 460501) and head west towards an old railway line. It then links up with a disused section of the Cromford Canal and follows it north-west via Codnor until we reach the Midland Railway Centre near Swanwick. This will be the lunch stop-refreshments are available and there will be an opportunity to explore the exhibition sheds and model railway.
The afternoon ramble then cuts south through Butterley and then west across to Lower Hartshay continuing across fields to the disused windmill close to Heage. The final section of the walk then moves north through Sawmills and concludes at Crich ready for a 5.15 pm departure home.
New members are most welcome. There is no need to pre-book your seat on the coach.
