Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club
On Sunday (22nd) the Sutton Rambling Club continue their increasingly popular series of summer walks with a steady 10 mile ramble centred in Lyme Park on the north western fringes of the Peak District.
The ramble will start at High Lane (grid ref 950854 ) on the A6 to the west of Disley on the A6. Initially the route will head south along the Macclesfield Canal (part of the Cheshire Ring Canal Walk). There will be a late morning stop with tea shop and toilets available before heading further south into the Lyme Park estate. The park is a magnificent 1300 acre estate nestling on the edge of the Peak District noted for its wild remoteness and deer park dating back to the 13th century. Lunch will be taken with ample time to sample the cafe and the information centre.
In the afternoon there will be a choice of routes as we move further south through the park to Bowstonegate and then head north east across moorland to the village of Furness Vale. The final section of this very varied and attractive walk takes us south alongside the Peak Forest Canal finishing at Whaley Bridge. (grid ref 010815) The coach will depart from here at 6.30pm.
We continue to welcome new members as we always can offer healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company. The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life " pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There is still no need to prebook your seat on the coach. The fare is £9.
