Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club
On Sunday (25th) the Sutton Rambling Club continues its very popular summer programme of walks on the borders of the Dark and White Peak areas with Longshaw representing the lunchtime focal point. There will be a choice of either a 8 or 10 mile ramble available. The ramble will start on the western edge of Sheffield near the Totley railway station (grid ref 310802). It will head north towards Whirlow and then on to the Ringinglow junction. along footpaths passing through farmland and woodland..At this point the route moves south across the edge of Burbage Moor ultimately reaching our lunchtime destination the Fox House Inn on the edge of the Longshaw estate. The inn was originally a shepherd's cottage built around 1773. There is also the option of the National Trust Longshaw Estate cafe for the lunch break. At this point we will have walked between 5 and 6 miles.
In the afternoon there will be a choice of walks. The shorter route will go south through the Longshaw estate and then enjoy a very pretty section through the Padley Gorge with attractive views of the stream through the trees. The walk finishes by cutting across to the Sir William Hotel pub on the edge of Grindleford on the B6001 (grid ref 212777). The longer route will head back towards the fringes of Burbage Moor and explore the Millstone Edge and surrounding quarries before dropping back through the Longshaw Estate and Padley Gorge to again finish at the Sir William Hotel The coach will set off for home at 6.30 pm.
As always new members are welcomed and will be able to enjoy healthy exercise in attractive scenery with friendly company. There is no necessity to prebook your seat on the coach.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points en route. The coach fare is £9.
