On Sunday (30th) the Sutton Rambling Club will be continuing their attractive series of summer programme walks with a scenic moderate 11.5 mile ramble in the Stanton Edge area of the White Peak.

Stanton Moor walk

The ramble will start near Rowsley (grid ref 257659) by the River Derwent and then head south through Stanton Woodhouse and on to Stanton Edge. After a mid morning coffee break the route continues south to the village of Birchover for a picnic lunch with drinks available at the Red Lion pub. Birchover is an interesting village to explore with old stocks, a bull ring and geological ruins preserved by a local society.

Suitably refreshed the main walk continues south to Winster village noted for its late 17th century Market House maintained by the National Trust. There will be a shorter alternative route from Birchover if desired. After visiting Winster we then head east through Clough Wood and then take enjoy a pub stop in the "Three Shires Head" at Darley Bridge. The final section of the walk follows the Peak Railway Line through to Matlock Bus Station, against the B.R. station ready for a 5.30 pm coach departure home. (grid ref 290605).

We always are pleased to welcome new members who can enjoy healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company.

The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff Of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwel Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There is no need to pre book your seat on the coach.
