On Sunday (7th February 2010) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be exploring some of the most attractive scenery in the White Peak. It will be a linear route covering a distance of approx 11 miles starting at the village of Tideswell (grid ref 152757) This village is steeped in history with a 14th century Parish Church which has been called the "Cathedral of the Peak" and a market dating back to 1250.
Initially we head west to Worm Hill and will soon be rewarded with spectacular views of Cheedale as we turn south towards the dale. This will be a good location to enjoy an early picnic lunch before descending into the dale. Our route then follows along this magnificent limestone gorge in an easterly direction until we reach Millers Dale station where there will be another break with a choice of refreshments at a cafe or the Anglers Rest pub.
We then continue east along Millers Dale until we reach the famous Monsal Head with its fine views of Upperdale and Monsal Dale,.The final section of this scenic ramble takes us across footpath to the charming village of Ashford-in-the Water. The coach will depart from here at approximately 5.15 pm.
New members are always made to feel most welcome and can be assured of healthy exercise, great scenery and friendly company.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff Of Life " pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points en route and there is no need to pre-book your seat.
The walk is led by Ian Johnson, author of Scenic Walks in the Peak District.
