Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club
On Sunday (20th September 2009) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying a steady 9/10 mile ramble in very pleasant limestone country in the White Peak. The walk will encompass 4 interesting villages/hamlets.
The starting point will be the Haddon Hall car park (grid ref 233663) and then head south to the charming hamlet of Alport at the junction of the Bradford and Lathkil rivers. It portrays the quintessential English hamlet. The route will then follow alongside pretty Bradford Dale where we will enjoy a mid morning coffee stop.
We continue west to the popular village of Youlgreave with its imposing church (pictured above). Its 15th century perpendicular tower is the finest in Derbyshire. The morning section finishes by moving south across mainly farmland to the village of Elton where lunchtime refreshments will be available.
In the afternoon we head south east following the Limestone Way to the interesting village of Bonsall (pictured above right). A noteworthy feature is the village market cross above 13 steps and surmounted by a bell dating back to 1671. The final part of the walk takes us east to Matlock Bath where the coach will pick us up for a 6.15 pm departure home.
New members are always most welcome and should find this walk an ideal introduction into the club. Enjoy healthy exercise in convivial company within attractive scenery.
