On Sunday (31st May 2009) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying the delights of the very popular Chee Dale and Millers Dale area of the White Peak. The walk will be an approximate length of 11 miles with a lower level option.
The starting point will be the Topley Pike Quarry on the A6 (grid ref 1157280). The route will head eastwards by the River Wye through Chee Dale with its breathtaking rock faces above us. We continue along to Millers Dale for a lunch stop with the choice of either a picnic lunch or pub refreshments.
In the afternoon the route continues along the Monsal Trail where the high level path above Miller's Dale is taken.
There will be the option of taking the riverside path instead. Upon reaching the famous Monsal Head there will be an afternoon refreshments break and a good opportunity to enjoy the stunning views. The last section of the walk continues in a south-east direction until reaching Bakewell where the coach will depart at 6.00pm.
New members are always made most welcome and will be guaranteed healthy exercise, attractive scenery and convivial company. There is no necessity to pre-book your seat on the coach.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30 am. There are other pick-up points available en route.
