On Sunday (17th May 2009) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club ventured out to enjoy attractive rural landscapes on the southern fringes of Sheffield. The terrain will be flat with the option of more hilly moorland in the late afternoon.
There will be an A walk of 12 miles and a B walk of 10 miles. Both walks will start at Eckington (grid ref 432797) and enjoy a steady walk up the Moss Valley where some bluebells may still be in flower. The route continues through pleasant woodland and on to the Gate Inn at Troway for a lunch break.
The afternoon continues along farm tracks and through copses eventually reaching the Cricket Inn at Totley which will be the finish of the B walk. at 5.15 ish.The A walk continues across open moorland to finish at the Fox House Inn, near Longshaw at 6.15pm.
As always new members are most welcome to our walkers group and can decide their choice of distance. We are pleased to see new faces on every walk at the moment but there is still no need to prebook yoour seat on the coach.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life " pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30 am. There are other pick-up points available en route.
