Information about a previous walk with the Sutton Rambling Club
On Sunday (25th January 2009) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club enjoyed a very steady varied walk across the fields and dales west of Tideswell, Derbyshire where there are wide open views and deep secluded limestone dales.
The main walk will be a comfortable distance of 8.5 miles with an option of an extra 2 miles for the most energetic in the afternoon.
This will be circular route starting at the Miller's Dale car park (grid ref 139732). We initially head east following the pretty minor road towards Litton Mill alongside the River Wye. We then move north along Tideswell Dale and have an early lunch stop in Tideswell village where refreshments will be available. There will be an opportunity to visit the "Cathedral of the Peak" - the 14th century parish church of St John the Baptist.
The longer route continues north along the Limestone Way and then loops back to Dale Head via Hay Dale.
The main party follows the minor road west from Wheston until joining up with the top of Peter Dale at Dale Head. As we enjoy the varied scenery of of Peter Dale we will have a mid-afternoon break. We then continue to the village of Wormhill via field and farm paths. We finish with a stroll along a woodland path returning to Millers Dale for a 4.30 coach departure home.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life " pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30 am. There are other pick-up points available en route.
