On Sunday, 14th December 2008 it will be time for our big event of the year - our legendary Christmas Ramble / Social Event. The ramble is a very easy stroll at a distance of between 5/6 miles.
The start will be from the Derwent Hotel in Whatstandwell and will initially head north alongside the Cromford Canal. We then veer away from the Canal and head north-east by quarries across to the hamlet of Wakebridge. Onwards then to enjoy the sweeping views from Crich Stand. The morning then finishes with a stroll down to the Black Swan in Crich for a very extensive lunch break.
This is a bit special with a buffet, a great Christmas singalong accompanied by our very own accomplished pianist / accordion player and a special raffle in aid of the Edale Mountain Rescue Team. If you would like a buffet (which is always excellent) please order in advance and ring Diane on 01623 408704 - cost £5. Songsheets provided. We would be grateful if you could contribute a small raffle prize.
The afternoon walk is an easy stroll back across the fields to our starting point at Whatstandwell. The anticipated coach departure time home is approximately 4.00pm.
This would be a great opportunity for potential new members who would be made most welcome. This is always a very popular event so, on this occasion, it would be helpful to let Diane know if you would like a seat on the coach.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9. 15 am and Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9. 30am.
